Tiny lifestyle meets super-sized challenges in Vermont
I decided to tackle this story based on my own interest in the tiny house movement, and found tiny house owners to speak with about the benefits and setbacks of the lifestyle. The most challenging part was learning about the building codes and regulations in my city. I spoke with the director of planning and zoning in addition to my own extensive research, which allowed me to comprehend and simplify the information for readers. This piece was originally produced for the Burlington Free Press, and was also published online by USA TODAY.

4-week pledge to speak no English presents challengeI came across this story after my editor at the Burlington Free Press received a suggestion from a reader who had enjoyed my education reporting. I was invited to visit and experience a language immersion program at a nearby college, which required me to conduct interviews in French so the students would stay in immersion. This was my first experience reporting in another language. I produced a video and an article based on my visit.

Safety at BHS: administrators, teachers seek improved policyAfter hearing concerns from some of my teachers about the state of safety at our high school, I decided to take a closer look. Through my persistence and seeking out multiple sources, I managed to obtain a copy of a safety audit that had been conducted following a formal complaint by the teachers' union. A week after my article was published, my reporting had made an impact. New security measures were put into place in response to pressure from the community.
