Front Page Design
For the 2016-17 school year I redesigned our front page, creating a fresh and updated look for our publication. This cover was for our second issue of November.
I designed a section with teasers above the masthead, advertising top stories within the paper. I also chose an eye-catching image to accompany the major story on the top fold of the paper. The bottom half features a story on the fall musical and teasers with graphics for two stories. I wrote the headlines, cutlines and copy for the teasers. The page contains a pleasant balance of visuals and text, with a clean, professional and interesting design. |
Newspaper Center Spread: Political Poll Results
Once again, the BHS Register conducted its annual political poll amongst students prior to the 2016 election. I crunched the numbers and turned the results into an interesting center spread for the newspaper, pairing the data with images and graphics. The bottom left is a close up, while the bottom right is the actual spread that was published.
Page Design + Infographic : Safety at BHS
I used a mix of visuals, along with pullout quotes, to break up the text for a lengthy article on safety at Burlington High School. I also decided to create an infographic highlighting safety improvements and issues at the school, drawing a labeled map in InDesign.
Newspaper Center Spread: High School Schedule Changes
I selected simple and graphic images to anchor my spread design for a story of schedule changes. I placed a clock graphic in the center of the spread to create a central eye-catching point, and added short blurbs explaining the two possible schedules (Models A and B). I also broke up my story into two articles, making the spread more accessible and reader friendly.
