Football sign stirs controversyWhen a fan from our crosstown rival came under fire for holding a potentially racist sign at a football game, I knew we had to be careful in our approach to covering this. Along with my advisers and fellow editor, we made the decision not to publish a photo of the sign. My article explaining the incident was factual, clear and accurate. I reached out to both principals providing them with the opportunity to comment, and aquired a report from the local police department. The news story broke the day before our print deadline, so I had to report it quickly.
